About The Position

This position involves performing daily maintenance walkthroughs and routine inspections of tunnel furnaces and related equipment. It requires completing and supporting mechanical maintenance for material handling and combustion systems, including changing furnace rolls, bearings, couplings, and boots. The role also involves maintaining the organization and housekeeping of the Tunnel Furnace area, coordinating with shift personnel for slide gate dumping and scale removal, and repairing TF refractory. The technician must be able to operate tunnel furnace material handling and combustion systems, light furnaces, and manage rejected bars. Additional duties include managing spare parts, using CMMS for materials and work orders, maintaining sensors and actuators, and coordinating with contractors for repairs.

Requirements

Strong safety awareness and fluent with our TCOS program
Good communication skills (verbal, written, and electronic)
Self-motivated with the ability to work consistently without direct supervision
Mechanically inclined
Basic electrical knowledge
Willing to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime
Ability to work routinely in a hot environment
Repetitive stretching, reaching, lifting and walking will be required to support routine responsibilities
Capable of operating mobile equipment and overhead cranes

Nice To Haves

Understanding of combustion systems and controls preferred
Dual line CSP Hot Mill operations experience preferred

Responsibilities

Perform daily maintenance walkthroughs and routine inspections of the tunnel furnaces and related equipment
Complete and/or support required mechanical maintenance to material handling and combustion systems components throughout TF area
Change tunnel furnace rolls, bearings, couplings, and boots as needed to ensure rolls are tuning and in good functional repair
Maintain proper organization and high standard of housekeeping of Tunnel Furnace area
In coordination with shift personnel ensure that slide gates are dumped and scale is removed
Maintain and repair TF refractory on roof panels and roll window openings
Ability to operate the tunnel furnace material handling and combustion systems in manual and automatic
Ability to light both tunnel furnaces from a cold and warm startup
Ability to reject a bar from the furnace and clear rejected slabs off table as needed
Perform other duties laid out by the shift supervisor or mechanical lead
Manage spare parts and consumable inventories for furnace
Use of CMMS for ordering materials, managing work orders and interfacing with PM system
Maintain combustion and material tracking system sensors and actuators
Coordinate with contractors to facilitate repairs when outside assistance is required
