About The Position

The Tumor Registrar is responsible for case finding and abstracting all eligible tumor registry cases. This position manages all aspect of the tumor registry related to the maintenance of our Commission on Cancer (CoC) accreditation, abstracting of tumor cases, case finding and follow-up consistent with hospital policy and procedures. The Tumor Registrar will use good judgment in minor decision-making as is related to abstracting, but will not be expected to make major decisions relative to policies or the facilities Commission on Cancer accreditation.

Requirements

  • Oncology, Data Specialist (ODS-C) certification and/or Associates Degree in a healthcare related field
  • Ability to attain ODS-C certification within 1 year of accepting the position

Responsibilities

  • Comply with the guidelines of abstracting cases per policy and abstraction guidelines
  • Complete abstracting timely per facility policy
  • Submit abstracted cases to the State and CoC timely, as applicable
  • Manage daily tumor registry operations
  • Complete case finding from various sources on an ongoing basis
  • Create suspense files for potential cases to abstracting into the registry
  • Complete timely follow-up on applicable cases accessioned into the tumor registry
  • Assist in managing and interpreting the standards set by the CoC regarding the tumor registry and facility accreditation
  • Responsible in conjunction with the CoC Program Administrator to organize and assist in facilitating the following meetings: Cancer Committee and the CoC Sub-committee Meeting
  • Participate in CoC accreditation preparation of survey and process process
