About The Position

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office, Criminal Division, Office of Victim Services Section is currently accepting applications for volunteers and unpaid interns to serve as Volunteer Victim Advocates, in the Tucson office, for the Fall semester, July through December 2026, with 6 months total commitment for 8-12 hours/week. The mission of the Office of Victim Services is to promote justice and healing for crime victims. Our staff is small relative to the number of victims we serve. Our success, therefore, depends on mature, responsible, caring volunteer interns. Please submit a cover letter in the same document upload as your resume. Requirements

Minimum junior status for bachelor's degree students preferred
Minimum of second year status for associate's degree students preferred
Recent graduates permitted
Minimum cumulative GPA 2.75
Pass a security background check
Ability to work effectively with people in sensitive areas
Good writing, communication, and computer skills

Nice To Haves

Past interns have come from the departments of political science, psychology, communications, sociology, pre-law, criminal justice and the International College.
An ideal candidate will submit a cover letter explaining their interest in an internship in human or victim services.

Responsibilities

Advocates act as liaisons between victims and members of the criminal justice system, including attorneys, courts, probation departments, and custodial agencies.
Explain the legal rights of victims in layperson’s terms
Accompany victims to court
Offer reassurance and empathetic listening
Identify, victims’ needs resulting from the crime
Assist advocates with case management to ensure compliance with Victims’ Rights with opportunities to observe advocates at Court and other direct contact with victims.
Answer or return calls to victims and constituents
Correspond by email and letter
Update case files and notes in an electronic case management system.
