Truck Inspectors (QA Technicians) help Mercer keep our truck driver’s vehicles and trailers in compliance with Dept. of Transportation requirements. Quality Assurance Technicians conduct vehicle safety inspections of new and used commercial motor vehicles in accordance with federal regulations and state law, ensuring all trucks and trailers operated by drivers are safe and Department of Transportation compliant. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to follow instructions and maintain logical follow-through on all projects.
  • Ability to stay organized with materials and time.
  • Possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills used to effectively convey information with a clear understanding to others.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the truck-driving industry and remain current on truck maintenance, DOT safety regulations, systems and procedures.
  • Able and willing to work in diversified environments, such as cold, heat, or wind.
  • Gain general knowledge of vehicle components.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical knowledge of diesel engine commercial vehicles.
  • Previous inspections experience in any other areas (home, auto, structural, mechanical/electrical).
  • General knowledge of cars/trucks/commercial equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs truck inspections in accordance with the Department of Transportation.
  • Install Electronic Logging Device (ELD's) and dash cameras into Commercial Motor Vehicles.
  • Keeps up with inventory of ELD’s and dash cameras and preps them for installation.
  • Performs data entry and files inspections and maintenance reports.
  • Maintains inspection and maintenance files.
  • Performs truck inspection orientations for all new contractors/agents/employees.
  • Notifies contractors of repair options if needed.
  • Receives copies of DOT inspections, audits them, signs a copy to send back to the state and makes a copy to send to the log department.
  • Work within a system designed to handle drivers from the orientation process through the duration of their contract with Mercer regarding inspections.
  • Manage hundreds of truckers a year and work with recruiters through orientation and maintaining paperwork in the drivers’ files.
  • Resolve most maintenance issues by taking independent actions and calculated risks without supervision.
  • Efficiently answer and respond to questions regarding projects and promptly respond to customer needs.
  • Seek opportunities to improve processes and implements creative solutions.
  • Report employee activity to manager to assist in performance planning.
