About The Position

The Class A CDL Truck Driver with Tanker endorsements is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of liquid and bulk materials in support of company operations across California. This role includes operating tanker vehicles in compliance with DOT, FMCSA, CHP, and state regulatory requirements, as well as performing pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and roadworthiness. The driver is accountable for proper loading, unloading, and securement of tanker contents, maintaining accurate logs and shipping documentation, and coordinating with dispatch, plant, and customer locations to meet delivery schedules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency is required (GED).
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
  • Tanker Endorsement (N) required for transporting liquid loads greater than 1,000 gallons.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience required, preferably with tanker or liquid bulk hauling.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and California transportation regulations, with preference for experience in food-grade or agricultural hauling environments.
  • Clean driving record with a history of safe driving practices.
  • Ability to work independently, manage variable schedules, and work extended or irregular hours as required by operational needs.
  • Ability to maintain FMCSA approved driver rating.

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Tanker Endorsement (N) required.
  • Bulk Weigher and Sampler Certification for milk hauling, as required by California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) or applicable state regulatory agencies.
  • Current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT Physical).
  • Ability to safely enter and exit the cab of a commercial vehicle multiple times per shift.
  • Ability to climb ladders and access the top of tanker trailers for inspection, venting, and connection of hoses, while maintaining three points of contact.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull hoses, fittings, and related equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach to connect and disconnect hoses, open and close valves, and perform inspections.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while performing loading, unloading, and inspection activities at farms and processing facilities.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind, as well as in wet, slippery, or uneven surfaces commonly found at dairy and agricultural sites.
  • Ability to maintain alertness and concentration for extended driving periods in compliance with Hours of Service regulations.
  • Ability to meet all DOT physical qualification standards, including vision, hearing, and overall physical fitness requirements for commercial driving.

Nice To Haves

  • Food Safety and Sanitation training or certification related to food-grade tanker operations (preferred).
  • Any prior tanker, liquid bulk, or agricultural hauling certifications or documented training.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate Class A tanker vehicles transporting raw and/or finished milk products, managing high center-of-gravity conditions and shifting liquid load dynamics specific to food-grade tanker operations.
  • Perform loading and unloading of milk using pumps, hoses, and valves at dairy farms, processing plants, and company facilities, following all sanitary and food safety procedures.
  • Follow strict sanitation, wash-out, and clean-in-place (CIP) requirements for food-grade tankers to prevent contamination and ensure product quality.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable FMCSA, DOT, CHP, and California state regulations, as well as FDA, PMO (Pasteurized Milk Ordinance), and company food safety standards.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections with specific focus on tanker integrity, seals, hoses, vents, temperature controls, and sanitary fittings.
  • Monitor product temperatures and verify proper handling to maintain cold chain and milk quality standards throughout transport.
  • Accurately complete and maintain required documentation, including logbooks, milk tickets, bills of lading, temperature records, wash tickets, and other regulatory and quality records.
  • Immediately report and properly respond to spills, leaks, temperature deviations, or contamination risks in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, dairy producers, plant personnel, and quality teams to coordinate pickups, deliveries, and resolve on-site issues.
  • Maintain a professional presence at farms and processing facilities while adhering to biosecurity, safety, and sanitation protocols.
