About The Position

The Salvation Army Midland Division in Jefferson City, Missouri, is looking for a Truck Driver! This position will drive or ride on the truck, as well as working in the store, working with customers, lifting, and carrying donated/purchased items and operating the forklift and the baler located at the thrift store. Much of the work done in the position will be of the physical labor type. Basic communication skills are required.   This is a part-time, 25 hour per week, position with starting pay of $18.00 per hour.

Requirements

  • High School/equivalent diploma and one-year related work experience or two years work experience without diploma.
  • Position requires basic communications with customers and other employees.
  • Ability to comprehend written job description, city map, cleaning instructions, safety rules, operating maintenance instructions and procedure manuals and material safety data sheet.
  • Appropriate state drivers license is required (Class C for the Truck) and must pass TSA MVR check.
  • Forklift operator certification must be obtained before operating the forklift.
  • It is required that anyone operating the forklift be properly trained and have the appropriate license.
  • Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in customer relations and warehouse experience helpful.
  • Previous store worker experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Drive or ride along in the truck to pick up merchandise.
  • Assist in loading and unloading the stores truck, customers’ vehicles, and/or donors’ vehicles.
  • When driving, conduct daily pre-trip inspections of the vehicle, maintain the interior and exterior of the truck, both cab and box area, in a clean and safe condition, monitor and schedule routine maintenance to include DOT inspections and alert the supervisor of needed repairs or safety concerns. Operate the vehicle in a safe manner and in compliance with The Salvation Army Fleet Operation Manual.
  • Evaluate all donated merchandise for its possible use and determine whether to accept or reject the donation. Politely refuse unacceptable items.
  • Issue receipts for donated items per store policy.
  • When riding, perform spotter function outside truck every time the truck is backed up.
  • After training, perform clothes baling operations in a safe manner (operate baler, move/stack bales which weigh up to 250 pounds).
  • After certification, operate forklift in a safe manner, ensuring all stacked items are safely stacked. Monitor and schedule routine maintenance and alert the supervisor of needed repairs and safety concerns.
  • Assist with maintaining the store to include: wash windows, dust, clean bathrooms, vacuum and mop floors, carry out trash and other janitorial duties as necessary. At the end of each workday the sorting room, dock area and work area will be cleaned and swept.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with customers, donors, co-workers, and supervisors. This includes but is not limited to such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors, and customers; respect of other’s property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about customers, donors, co-workers, and supervisors.
