About The Position

Terberg YT yard / terminal tractors (4x2) and also called shunt trucks, are widely used by major port operators worldwide. Our terminal tractors are primarily used for transporting various cargoes (container, bulk, breakbulk, shipping containers, oil barrels, gear, or any other materials / cargo) from vessel to storgae yard in a responsible, safe and efficient manner. The operator will be responsible for operating terminal tractors and assisting with the loading and discharging of all cargo, within the facility. (NIGHT SHIFT ONLY 7PM - 6AM)
THIS IS NOT AN OVER THE ROAD POSITION.

Requirements

• One (1) year driving a mule jockey, yard dog, terminal tractor and/or rig driving experience is preferred.
• Must have an active TWIC card in hand.
• Must have the ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric
• Must have the ability to function effectively in a fast paced work environment
• Must have the ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.
• Must have the ability to think logically, follow procedures, instructions and make sound
• Must be able to work flexible hours and extended hours including nights, overtime, weekends and holidays
• The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, bend, squat and twist.
• The employee must occasionally lift, carry, push and pull up to 50.
• The employee is frequently required to talk and walk.
• The employee is continuously required to sit (while driving), grasp and exercise eye-hand coordination and eye hand-foot coordination and finger dexterity.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust to various types of light.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-shift mechanical inspection of assigned company truck (yard mule / terminal tractor) and immediately report any deficiencies.
• Operate terminal tractor and ensure cargo is properly secure for transport throughout the yard. Includes loading & unloading break bulk cargo, containers and steel/pipe, using standard equipment such as flatbed trailers, pipe trailers, open top containers, and moffets.
• Couple and uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air and electrical lines.
• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
• Maintain logs of loads and submit accurate daily shift activity
• Maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards and awareness of surroundings i.e. vehicles, people, equipment, etc.) at all times.
• Perform other duties such as general labor when assigned by Supervisor.
