About The Position

The Student Success Services (SSS) Project Director will manage the financial, personnel, operational, and student services functions of the Student Success Services Program in the office of Student Educational Opportunity (SEO). This grant-funded program serves University of Wyoming undergraduates who are first-generation students from limited-income families and students with disabilities by providing holistic advising support to facilitate good academic standing, persistence, and timely graduation from UW. Manage and implement program operations with the goal of meeting or exceeding annual objectives related to participants’ academic success and progression. Manage program budget, personnel, participant recruitment, services, and annual reporting effectively and in compliance with federal regulations and SEO policies and procedures. Maintain current knowledge of federal legislation, regulations, and priorities pertaining to TRIO programs. PLEASE NOTE: This is an at-will, grant-funded position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4 years work-related experience
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

  • A Master’s degree in education, social sciences or humanities, public administration, counseling, or another field related to SSS objectives and services.
  • Possess an understanding of the academic, financial, and personal/social barriers to educational achievement associated with the target population.
  • Experience managing grant-funded programs subject to federal compliance and ability to collect and analyze data and use proprietary databases to facilitate strategic planning and assess the success of the project in achieving its goals.
  • Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate professional staff in a manner that ensures they provide appropriate and effective services.
  • Ability to provide student support services and advising as well as design and deliver workshops on academic success strategies, study skills, financial and economic literacy, and major and career planning.
  • Well-developed time and task management skills to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Ability to assess the effectiveness of program operations in order to develop and implement new policies and procedures, as needed.
  • A high level of proficiency using Microsoft software including Word, Excel, and Outlook as well as Google applications.
  • An individual who has experienced barriers to educational access and success similar to those of the population being served.
  • Familiarity with writing competitive grant proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage appropriate and successful participant recruitment drives and provision of services in order to achieve federally mandated program objectives.
  • Train and supervise staff in implementing holistic advising services in individual and group settings as a means to facilitate participant academic success.
  • Develop, monitor, and adjust a complex annual budget while adhering to federal regulations regarding allowable and unallowable expenditures and services, including conducting regular budget projections and preparing and submitting program budgets for federal review.
  • Design and monitor project operating policies and procedures including accurate record keeping and database management that comply with federal regulations in order to undertake formative program evaluations and fulfill annual reporting obligations.
  • Ensure that federal stipend and institutional scholarship funds are awarded annually in compliance with federal legislation.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate four professional advising staff, including regularly assessing performance, effectively communicating SSS and SEO policy requirements, and performing regulatory checks on staff file management and data entry.
  • Collaborate with the SEO Tutor Coordinator to manage and coordinate the delivery of tutoring services to facilitate SSS participants’ academic progress.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with UW faculty, staff, and departments to foster an institutional climate supportive of the success of SSS-eligible students.
  • Provide information and data in various formats for multiple audiences upon request.
  • Manage grant-writing processes.
  • Maintain a professional approach to problem solving and act as a role model for staff management of unexpected or challenging circumstances.
  • Participate in SEO administrative and student-centered activities and assist in the development of SEO policy and procedures.
  • Represent SEO at UW events and on university committees.
  • Occasional evening/weekend hours and year-round, periodic travel by car and by air to professional conferences and trainings.
