About The Position

Provides holistic advising for students; assists students in exploring options, setting goals, and creating a plan to achieve desired outcomes; communicates proactively with students throughout all phases of the student experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One (1) year of related experience in a student services, academic advising, teaching, or counseling area of an educational environment that required excellent interpersonal and student services skills
  • Driver’s license and reliable transportation for local travel
  • Experience working with underrepresented student populations
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of the team.

  • Excellent written, computer, and verbal interpersonal skills
  • Experience with training, public speaking, and/or conducting presentations

Responsibilities

  • Provides holistic and intrusive advising for TRIO students including assisting students with course selection and registration, transfer to 4-year university/college admission, and financial aid process.
  • Assists TRIO students with complex academic situations, understanding institutional policy and procedure, and completion of forms and documents.
  • Addresses and anticipates student inquiries in-person, by phone, or via e-mail regarding academic advising, withdrawal dates, transcript evaluation, and more.
  • Provides in-person and virtual academic advising for TRIO students, including at both Perth Amboy and New Brunswick Centers on a rotating basis.
  • Gathers data and maintains confidential files of program participants. Prepares reports and written narratives according to grant requirements.
  • Conducts workshops in multi-modalities on a range of topics related to academic success skills, financial literacy, career readiness, and goal setting with a focus on community colleges.
  • Monitors TRIO student academic, career, personal, and career progress and develops plans for student success.
  • Assists with the recruitment and selection of TRIO participants.
  • Assists in the development and execution of the Summer Success Program for eligible TRIO students.
  • Attends workshops, webinars, or conferences to stay current on best practices, student-centered trends, and policy initiatives related to TRIO/underrepresented student populations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
