Perform work in the operation, preventive maintenance and minor maintenance of water and/or wastewater treatment plant, including well production and water distribution systems. Work is assigned, performed, supervised, and reviewed based on applicable State of Alaska Operator Certification level and the role of the individual. The required skill and supervision is dependent on the applicable State of Alaska Operator Certification level of the person. Employees are assigned general duties in the broad area of treatment plant systems operations, well production, and water distribution systems. Incumbents work independently with less direct supervision as proficiency level increases. Employees work varying shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays to meet the water and/or wastewater treatment needs of the domestic, commercial, and industrial sectors of the Municipality of Anchorage. Treatment Plant Operators III and IV are lead positions and assist in the training of other operators, and may be assigned as plant-in-charge crew leader with duties that include assigning, controlling, and checking work for accuracy and conformity with procedures and regulations. Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in major emergencies or disasters as outlined in AWWU's disaster plan matrix, which defines each employee's potential duties and responsibilities. This may include 12-hour work shifts, which may continue for 72 hours or more starting at any time an event might occur, 7 days a week, 24 hours per day.
