JOB SUMMARY: This position oversees maintenance activities and supervises mechanical staff at assigned treatment plant. Work involves providing technical knowledge on repairs and installation of equipment; coordinating with instrumentation, operations, and other plant personnel as well as outside engineers and contractors; ordering materials, supplies, and equipment; and troubleshooting complex equipment problems. This position also performs administrative duties such as budget development and tracking, personnel management, safety training, maintenance management system updates, and monitoring and maintaining the work order system.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited school.
  • Seven (7) years of related work experience maintaining wastewater equipment including one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant work/industry/military/job specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Must obtain and maintain a City Driver’s Permit.
  • Desires a NC One Water Maintenance Technologist IV Certification or certification must be obtained within 7 years.
  • Requires a certification as a Backflow Tester (depending on assigned area).
  • Knowledge of computers and maintenance software.
  • Knowledge of predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance methods. This includes vibration analysis, laser alignment, mechanical alignment, oil analysis and thermography.
  • Knowledge of electrical troubleshooting methods. This includes experience using a voltage and current meter, troubleshooting control panels and motor starter circuits (<=480V)
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily maintenance work activities, including predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance.
  • Coordinates with operations staff and maintenance manager on maintenance related activities.
  • Directs maintenance staff by generating, scheduling, and tracking work orders using the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Assists mechanical staff with maintenance activities including prioritizing work, troubleshooting, and making repairs.
  • Provides oversight of mechanical staff. This includes assigning work, evaluating performance, participating in staffing decisions related to hiring, firing and promotional opportunities, providing mentoring and assisting with career development.
  • Approves daily time records for payroll.
  • Ensures adequate materials and parts are available by preparing scopes of work, requests for proposals, and purchase orders.
  • Responds to emergency situations and coordinates staff and/or contractors to assist in resolution and making repairs.
  • Participates in plant upgrades and expansion by working with plant operations staff to identify equipment needs, sharing expertise of equipment based on maintenance histories, evaluating submittals, monitoring and inspecting work of outside contractors and ensuring maintenance staff is trained on new equipment.
  • Takes a lead role in safety by participating on safety teams; ensuring safety rules are followed; monitoring confined space permits; ensuring trenching/shoring guidelines are followed; and providing training specific to the hazardous aspects of the working environment at the treatment plants.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
