About The Position

The Treatment Nurse is responsible for providing skilled dermatologic, wound, and treatment-related nursing care to residents in accordance with physician orders, established protocols, and facility policies. This role works closely with the attending physician, Medical Director, Director of Nursing Services (DON), and the interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality resident care and regulatory compliance.

  • Current, valid LVN or RN license
  • Strong assessment, documentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team

  • Wound care and treatment experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Make written and oral reports and recommendations to the attending physician, Medical Director, and Director of Nursing Services regarding resident condition and care.
  • Work with the Interdisciplinary Care Plan Team to develop, implement, and update comprehensive resident assessments and care plans.
  • Provide written and/or oral status reports for residents receiving treatment services.
  • Identify, manage, and treat skin disorders and lesions including abrasions, corns, callouses, pressure injuries, bacterial/parasitic/viral infections, scaling diseases, and benign tumors.
  • Perform resident assessments using observation, inspection, and palpation; complete and document quarterly dermatologic examinations.
  • Provide therapeutic services and collaborate with the Care Planning Team in treatment planning.
  • Administer treatment for uncomplicated dermatologic conditions within established protocols and under physician supervision.
  • Ensure appropriate prevention and treatment of pressure injuries, including daily skin inspections, repositioning, nutrition coordination, and maintaining clean, dry bedding.
  • Provide direct physical and psychological nursing care in emergencies or during illness or disability.
  • Assist with resident admissions and discharges, including coordination with families and external health agencies.
  • Support resident rehabilitation activities, including range of motion, ambulation assistance, emotional support, and monitoring therapy outcomes.
  • Participate in committees and attend meetings as appointed by the Administrator.
  • Participate in in-service education and continuing education programs to maintain licensure and clinical competency.
  • Assist in monitoring inventory of medications, medical supplies, equipment, and skin care products.
  • Maintain effective, professional working relationships with physicians, consultants, staff, residents, and family members.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and report occupational exposures per facility policy.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident information and protected health information (PHI); promptly report suspected or known violations.
  • Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempts to access the facility’s information systems.
  • Report resident complaints, grievances, abuse allegations, or misappropriation of property in accordance with facility policy.
  • Ensure resident rights are honored, including refusal of treatment and advance directive compliance.
