We’re looking for a Traveling Survey Project Manager that will be responsible for leading and delivering safe, accurate, and efficient survey operations across multiple RNGD projects. This role oversees field survey teams, ensures compliance with project requirements, and supports the implementation of design models that bridge the gap between design intent and field execution. The Survey Project Manager combines field leadership with technical office responsibilities, including calculations, modeling, and data management. This role supports a wide range of construction applications including heavy civil infrastructure, public works, industrial projects, and mission-critical facilities, ensuring survey operations drive project success and operational excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Geomatics, or related field.
  • 10+ years of construction survey experience.
  • Proficiency with Trimble Siteworks or Trimble Access.
  • Advanced knowledge of GNSS technology, total stations, LiDAR, and drone-based data collection.
  • Strong understanding of algebra and geometry for survey calculations.
  • Advanced experience with CAD software, including Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, or Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to travel regionally.
  • Willingness to work extended hours based on project demands.
  • Physical capability to lift equipment and perform fieldwork in varying conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Project Coordination and Planning
  • Coordinate project setup and implement project-specific survey plans including scheduling, staffing, and documentation.
  • Interpret project drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to ensure accurate construction models and field layout.
  • Oversee field survey operations and ensure alignment with project schedules and milestones.
  • Conduct audits of field procedures and documentation to ensure efficiency and compliance.
  • Coordinate pre-construction and post-construction survey data collection efforts.
  • Control, Modeling, and Layout
  • Establish and maintain control networks using traverse, level loops, and GNSS calibration methods.
  • Develop and maintain IFC models to support machine control and field layout activities.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs to validate estimates and track completed work for progress and cost control.
  • Execute and oversee construction layout activities across all phases of work.
  • Ensure layout accuracy aligns with design intent and project specifications.
  • Data Capture, Management, and Documentation
  • Capture accurate as-built data and topography using terrestrial scanning, aerial survey methods, and traditional survey techniques.
  • Manage survey data including storage, backups, and organization of project information.
  • Prepare and deliver detailed reports and documentation using survey and data management software.
  • Ensure data integrity and accessibility for project teams and stakeholders.
  • Quality Assurance and Technical Execution
  • Review and verify survey calculations prior to field layout execution.
  • Implement and maintain GNSS grade control systems to support accurate machine guidance.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure proper interpretation of technical data.
  • Deliver high-accuracy survey data to support construction milestones and quality requirements.
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges and adjust survey methodologies based on field conditions.
  • Leadership and Team Development
  • Lead and support field survey teams and subcontractors to ensure safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Mentor and develop team members to build technical capability and career progression.
  • Assist in interviewing, assessing, and onboarding survey personnel.

  • Field and Physical Requirements
  • Travel to active construction sites and support survey operations across multiple project locations.
  • Work in varying environmental conditions including outdoor and uneven terrain.
  • Lift and transport survey equipment and materials as required.
  • Perform fieldwork that includes walking, standing, bending, and climbing for extended periods.
  • Work extended hours as required to support project schedules and deadlines.
