About The Position

As an Industrial Maintenance Field Technician, you’ll be responsible for on-site installation, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance on sanitary processing and utility equipment at customer facilities. This role involves traveling around 50% of the time to customer facilities primarily across the Midwest with occasional national trips. This hands-on role is ideal for mechanically inclined professionals who enjoy solving technical challenges, working independently, and ensuring equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with food industry standards. Success in this role requires a team-oriented mindset, a flexible schedule, adaptability, and a willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanics and equipment repair.
  • Familiarity with pumps, valves, conveyor systems, heat exchangers, basic electrical troubleshooting, or related items.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to customer sites 50% of the time (primarily regionally across Wisconsin, Minnesota, & Midwest but also to other regions of the U.S.). Overnights and occasional weekends as required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to work in variable environments, including ladders, wet floors, and occasional exposure to chemicals or noise.
  • Wear PPE as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary technical education or relevant certifications.
  • 4+ years of experience as a maintenance mechanic in the food or beverage industry.
  • Understanding of sanitary processing equipment and/or pharmaceutical standards.
  • Experience with PLCs, instrumentation, and automation systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and electronic equipment in food processing facilities.
  • Perform emergency repairs and planned maintenance per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, work orders, and P&ID drawings.
  • Maintain service records and update preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Follow all Nelson-Jameson and customer-site safety and food safety programs.
  • Assist plant personnel and support warehouse/inventory operations when needed.
  • Troubleshoot vending equipment with appropriate training or team support.
  • Operate various forklifts and handling equipment (order pickers, pallet jacks, etc.).
  • Represent Nelson-Jameson professionally at all customer locations.
