About The Position

Are you ready to take your technical skills on the road and support some of the most challenging high temperature industrial operations in North America? The Traveling Service Technician role offers a unique opportunity to install and service refractory products at customer locations across the U.S., supporting industries that rely on extreme temperature manufacturing. In this mobile, hands-on technical role, you will work directly inside kilns, furnaces, and industrial systems—installing brick, performing tear outs, executing mechanical repairs, operating equipment, and supporting precision measurement and audit activities. With significant autonomy, you’ll troubleshoot onsite, collaborate with teammates, and represent RHI Magnesita in a highly professional manner while traveling up to 80% of the time. Requirements

  • 5+ years of refractory or industrial maintenance experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Journeyman Bricklayer or similar trade certification
  • Experience with gunite and shotcrete applications
  • Rotary kiln experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to operate forklifts and industrial equipment
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Passport or ability to obtain
  • MSHA Part 46b or 48 (or ability to obtain)
  • OSHA 10 or 30 (or ability to obtain)
  • Ability to maintain accurate expenses (Concur preferred)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Competency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint)
  • Experience with precision measuring equipment (scanners, lasers, thermal cameras) preferred
  • Demonstrated passion, integrity, hard work, and professionalism
  • Ability to represent RHIM professionally at all customer locations
  • Ability to stand on feet 10–12 hours per day
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly
  • Ability to climb ladders, steps, and elevated platforms
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights up to 100 ft

Responsibilities

  • Install brick shapes and combinations in rotary kilns
  • Key and lock brick rings using pneumatic brick rig equipment
  • Perform welding, cutting, grinding, anchor installation, forming, and pouring
  • Apply refractory materials using gunite and shotcrete systems
  • Interpret and understand technical drawings (anchor centering patterns, brick combinations, etc.)
  • Pull measurements for centering, lining thickness, and project setup
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on tools and machinery
  • Use handheld power tools (drills, saws, grinders, etc.)
  • Operate industrial equipment (forklifts, manlifts, scissor lifts, Brokk machines)
  • Operate precision tools including 3D scanners, laser thermometers, and thermal cameras
  • Complete ovality and kiln audits
  • Support refractory material trials at customer sites
  • Travel extensively (up to 80%) with varying shift start times (8–16 hour shifts)
