About The Position

Malcolm Drilling has been innovating and leading the deep foundation industry for over six decades. As part of our deep foundations, retention systems, and ground improvement services, we also provide a range of special applications and dewatering techniques. By implementing Design/Build, we execute projects quickly and effectively, allowing for timely collaboration with owners and contractors. Through our regional offices, we offer these services nationwide. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Traveling Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. This role involves traveling to various job sites to perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on heavy construction equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy equipment troubleshooting, with the flexibility to travel extensively.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment schematics and service manuals.
  • ASE or other relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (including overnight stays) based on project locations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site repairs and maintenance on heavy construction equipment, including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and cranes.
  • Identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues, and efficiently perform repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Conduct regular service checks, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and general inspections.
  • Maintain accurate service records, document parts usage, and provide detailed repair reports.
  • Follow company and OSHA safety standards, properly use personal protective equipment (PPE), and adhere to safe work practices.
  • Collaborate with site supervisors and equipment operators to understand equipment issues and prioritize repairs.
