Collects Trauma Registry data to provide accurate data and statistics in support of trauma program operations and trauma performance improvement and patient safety program as a requirement of maintaining American College of Surgeons' (ACS) Trauma Center Verification and/or state trauma center designation requirements. Identifies patients appropriate for trauma registry inclusion utilizing established registry inclusion criteria. Identifies, codes, and abstracts records for all eligible trauma patients utilizing the trauma registry data system within the guidelines and requirements of the ACS Committee on Trauma, the National Trauma Data Standard, state and local data standards, and other applicable requirements. Maintains a high degree of data entry accuracy as well as strong organization skills. Possesses knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and medical records procedures. Participates in continuing education to gain a strong knowledge base of traumatic injuries and data quality standards. Possesses knowledge of software applications including Microsoft Office. Possesses knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) and Trauma Registry database. Works with team members in remote locations using a variety of technologies. Works extensively with electronic medical records and protected health information and is required to adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy and security regulations and policies related to the same.
