About The Position

The Trauma Outreach and Education Coordinator is a Registered Nurse that works collaboratively toward improving trauma care throughout the Northeast Region of Kansas. This nurse is responsible for ensuring the availability of comprehensive, quality trauma education for professionals across the continuum of care. With in-depth trauma knowledge, technical expertise, skill and competency, this nurse also serves as an important regional resource, providing expertise in the treatment and prevention of major injury.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • 3 years Experience in trauma such as ED, Surgical ICU, Post Surgical Floors, OR/PACU or related field.
  • Knowledge of the most current ACS standards related to “Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient”. (Required proficiency)
  • Experience with public speaking and/or teaching (individually or in groups) and ability to utilize basic audiovisual equipment with ease. (Required proficiency)
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to coordinate/delegate multiple work assignments simultaneously, set priorities and accomplish a wide variety of tasks. (Required proficiency)
  • Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted.
  • Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN), Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN), or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN).
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course - ENPC Required within one year of hire
  • Basic Life Support - BLS Required within 90 days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support - ACLS Required within 90 days of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support - PALS Required within 90 days of hire.
  • Rural Trauma Team Development course coordinator within one year of hire.
  • Trauma Care After Resuscitation within 6 months of hire.
  • ATLS Coordinator within one year of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with performance improvement, quality management and standards compliance. (Preferred proficiency)
  • Knowledge of the administrative, professional and clinical organization of Stormont-Vail Health. (Preferred proficiency)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course - TNCC Instructor and Course Director status within one year of hire

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements professional trauma educational programs consistent with the: a. Trauma standard of care b. Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Plan c. Evaluates outcomes of trauma educational programs
  • Coordinates specific trauma education for multidisciplinary personnel based on identified problems/knowledge deficits
  • Promotes optimal trauma care through coordination of regular regional education programs in Kansas communities and trauma care updates to health care providers in prehospital settings and rural facilities (i.e., Time Critical Diagnosis Updates, local case studies, skills labs, ATLS coordinator, RTTDC coordinator)
  • Works closely with Trauma Leadership to develop trauma education and outreach goals and provide regular reports on goals and progress
  • Serve as a representative from Stormont Vail Health with trauma collaborations, such as: Northeast Regional Trauma Council, Midwest Trauma Society, etc.
  • Collaborates with the Learning and Talent Development Department, ensuring regular offerings of externally developed trauma courses (i.e. TNCC, ENPC, TCAR, PCAR), as well as development of regular trauma continuing education programs (i.e. Trauma Grand Rounds, Trauma and Critical Care Symposium)
  • Advise and collaborate interdepartmentally in the development and update of trauma related policies, protocols, department-specific trauma orientation, and annual trauma competency development.
  • Identification of opportunities for advancement of the quality of trauma care across the continuum and coordinate or participate in teams to implement various trauma improvement projects.
  • Assists with injury and violence prevention initiatives, including community education and outreach for diverse populations, as well as measures to increase public awareness of the public health benefits of organized trauma care.
  • Assists the Performance Improvement team in implementing education based on trends identified to employees providing care to the trauma population.
  • Assist with data collection process and submission of Trauma Services community benefits including volunteerism and community services.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility for assigned activities.
  • Collaborates with Trauma Services staff to ensure Stormont Vail Health maintains compliance with the trauma standards set forth by regulatory agencies
  • Input documentation of ongoing projects and education provided within the Trauma Registry.
