Outreach programs are an integral part of Trauma Center services designed to help improve outcomes from serious injury through the public and professional dissemination of information and by facilitating access to the clinical and education resources of the Trauma Center. The coordinator works in conjunction with the trauma center nurse manager to develop follow-up processes for referring providers on patients sent to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys Campus for trauma care. This may include providing specific education and suggesting resources that may benefit future patients. These activities aid in the provision of "event resolution" for the performance improvement programs in both the referring and receiving institutions. The coordinator is able to impact the level of care being offered to trauma patients throughout the Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS) and regional referral centers. This is accomplished by offering the expertise and resources of the Trauma Center while maintaining collaborative working relationships with these institutions. The goal of outreach efforts is to assist in the development of a regional trauma system that decreases morbidity and saves lives. To advocate at a local and regional level for legislative efforts aimed at trauma prevention. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
