This position is located in the Anson County Bridge Maintenance Unit. Work is related to the maintenance repair and construction of State-owned bridges, culverts, and pipes within Division 10. This position is technical in nature and labor intensive. Employee will be required to work in diverse working environments in all types of weather conditions. Employee will be required to work in and around heavy traffic, near heavy equipment, and with power tools. Qualified individual should be familiar with and/or able to learn, but not limited to carpentry skills, welding, pipe fitting, structure painting, machine operation, inspection of various materials that compromise state bridges, large pipe or culverts, utilizing small hand tools and power tools. The recommended applicant must be able to work in a close team environment or independently, as needed. Recommended must be able to carry and lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally and 50 lbs. frequently. Position will require climbing, bending and walking on uneven terrain. May require work during non-traditional work hours, including nights, weekends, holidays and times of emergency. Selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a Class A CDL with N endorsements and no restrictions. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be maintained through completion of on- the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49CFR383) within 360 days of hire. Pre-employment drug testing is required. As a condition of employment, release forms (ALCDRG-01 and ALDCRG-06) must be signed allowing NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.
