About The Position

The transportation supervisor is responsible for ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction during product delivery, meeting established financial targets, and efficiently overseeing all personnel within the department. This role includes ensuring adherence to all company standards, policies, and procedures, fostering team development, promoting professionalism and collaboration, and creating a sense of pride within the department. Additionally, the supervisor is accountable for ensuring that the department complies with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Ultimately, the supervisor is tasked with cultivating a culture of continuous improvement to guarantee the company's success in achieving its objectives, particularly in delivering outstanding customer service. This is a dual role, and the transportation supervisor is required and responsible for taking a route, if need be, in the event of an emergency or more callouts than spare drivers on that day. As a delivery driver, he ensures that produce, dairy, and dry goods products are delivered to customers in a manner that meets or exceeds customer expectations. The delivery driver is also responsible for communicating any customer preferences or issues to the transportation department managers and supervisors as well as the customer care department. Finally, the delivery driver is responsible for operating vehicles in a safe and professional manner as well as reporting any vehicle maintenance issues using proper inspection format and verbal communication to supervisors.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of management experience in a logistics leadership role.
  • Organizational skills to support a fast-paced, multitasking environment.
  • Proficient in computer programs, able to learn required skills to manage the operation.
  • Leadership techniques associated with personnel development, departmental collaboration, and elements of logistic best practices to include DOT/HOS rules and regs.
  • Basic labor law regulations concerning hours and wages.
  • Must interact with all associates professionally and effectively, a strong communicator.
  • Timely with task completion, sense of urgency towards all duties, highly organized, proactive approach, skilled in conflict resolution, can give/receive constructive criticism.
  • Committed to associate engagement, a catalyst for positive change.
  • Flexible always, adjusting to any unexpected work demands of any customer.
  • Able to teach, mentor, and coach associates to success; sets an example for all to follow.
  • Must pass post-employment substance abuse screening, physical ability, and physical health screening, which includes the HPE (Human Performance Evaluation) test.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates and enforces the compliance of all safety/work rules in the department, such as dress code, driver seniority, tractor assignment/cleanliness, DVIR reporting, etc.
  • Maintains responsibility for all established departmental key performance indicators.
  • Leads staff through effective management, namely sharing expectations, communication, coaching/training/mentoring, and maintaining high levels of accountability.
  • Identifies and addresses personnel deficiencies and initiates resolution by way of training.
  • Engaged in weekly staff meetings to ensure communication is timely, clear, and thorough, as well as fostering daily relational trust with direct reports.
  • Oversee the scheduling of all staff, ensuring the achievement of optimum productivity and timely completion of tasks, to ensure delivery of customer satisfaction.
  • Understands the customer base and maintains a working knowledge of delivery windows.
  • Collaborate with routers to ensure the greatest route efficiencies.
  • Provides leadership relative to work schedules, payroll adjustments, and approvals for time off.
  • Ensures that all timekeeping-related tasks are reviewed, adjusted, and submitted in an expeditious and accurate manner to track and complete all weekly payroll functions.
  • Ensures the compliance of all federally mandated DOT standards relative to hours of service, safe operation of equipment, and maintenance of regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the maintenance of driver qualification files in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and the reviewing of dates to coordinate the renewal of driver medical certifications and licenses.
  • Detailed driven in the checking in of inbound drivers, requiring the same of their personnel.
  • Is instrumental in the annual goal setting with senior management and spearheads initiatives that support their achievement; reviews/manages all department metric reporting.
  • Aggressively maintains the preservation of company assets to maximize longevity of use.
  • Works with Risk Mgmt. and Transportation Safety to drive improvement through planned audits, CSA and accident reporting, file review, and staying current with proposed DOT changes.
  • Works closely with operations, human resources, customer service, and senior management to identify improvement opportunities and acts.
  • Utilizes all available systems, i.e., Roadnet, Omnitracs, and Paycom, to fulfill objectives.
  • Monitors the productivity level of associates, namely drivers, jockeys, and all support personnel, ensuring that value-added work is accomplished and accountability maintained.
  • Promote team unity within the department by fostering strong morale, teamwork, and healthy communication and holding associates accountable for work performance.
  • Performs deliveries, pick-ups, and returns of produce, dairy products, and dry goods to/from customers and suppliers.
  • Use the Mobile Cast program to review route assignments and log whereabouts while making deliveries using a Direct Connect handset/phone.
  • Review paperwork for assigned route(s) to ensure all invoices are present and in good condition.
  • Inspect cargo loads to ensure they are packed appropriately.
  • Prepare customer orders by verifying them with delivery invoices for accuracy, delivering them to the customer facility, and assisting with check-in and placement of products at the client facility.
  • Receives signatures on invoices for items delivered and collects any cash on delivery payments when necessary.
  • Completes, organizes, and turns in all appropriate paperwork and invoices, making sure that all checks and monies are balanced and included in the drop.
  • Ensure that all vehicles are cleaned out properly at the end of each shift.
  • Perform and document pre-trip and post-trip inspections in proper Department of Transportation (DOT) format.
  • Participate in and/or lead quality improvement teams that drive improvement efforts.
  • Completes all accident investigation/documentation/reporting timely and accurately.
