About The Position

We are seeking a Transportation Structural Engineer to support the Florida Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) General Engineering Consultant (GEC) Program and join our team in Ocoee, FL to lead and work on various projects. Your role Identifies and solves complex structural engineering issues. Ability to review Category 1 structure plans and other technical documents such as Design Variations, Design Exceptions, typical section packages, maintenance permits and non-conventional project concept plans and documents. Coordinate with Central Office on, and performs the District review of, plans and/or non-conventional project concept plans and documents involving Category 2 structures. Provides input to the Department’s Structures Engineer regarding potential policy manual and design standard revisions. Provides structural engineering support to Department and Consultant staff in areas of structure plans, analysis and design. Assist in the preparation Scope of Services and staff hour estimates for new contracts and Supplemental Agreements. Coordinate with Project Manager on units and staff hour meetings and with other technical disciplines to provide a multidiscipline approach to negotiations. Assists with the development of Requests for Proposals (RFP) for nonconventional bid projects. Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project. Review all component plans for structural details and coordination among plan sets. Reviews contractor-initiated submittals (RFIs, RFCs, shop drawings, remedials, etc.) and coordinates with construction personnel as necessary. Coordinates work with other engineers and professionals within and outside own discipline, and with support services staff. Records review comments in Electronic Review Comments (ERC) system and confirms compliance to comments with responses and subsequent submittals. Special assignments may arise that require research on a special. topic and may result in publishing a report or preparing a presentation for other districts or Central Office. May occasionally assist in the management of projects. May perform such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering.
  • This level may be achieved by Engineers with ten years’ experience since B.S. or nine years since M.S.
  • Typical incumbent has 15 to 20 years of experience.
  • PE License required.
  • Proven organizational, technical writing and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. or graduate level technical coursework preferred.
  • FDOT experience preferred.
  • Candidate may be eligible for project management training.
