About The Position

The Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is seeking a Transportation Senior Operations Technician for a position with the Colchester team of the District Maintenance and Fleet Division. This position is responsible for assisting the Supervisor in leading a team in providing the safe and efficient movement of people and goods. The Senior Technician will be the Crew Leader for day-to-day work activities, following the direction of the Supervisor, and may act as a supervisor in their absence. The main duties of this position revolve around winter maintenance, including plowing with specialized equipment and treating roads with winter materials. Secondary activities include maintenance and supervisory work on roads, bridges, culverts, and related properties. The incumbent will enforce proper safety practices and will assist in train employees accordingly. Candidates should have strong leadership skills, in addition to considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment used in transportation maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years or more of transportation maintenance or construction experience
  • One (1) year or more supervising a work crew
  • One season or more of operating a snowplow with or without wings
  • Six (6) months or more of operating medium or heavy equipment, such as graders, rollers, and backhoes
  • OR One (1) year or more as a Transportation Operations Technician III
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment used in transportation maintenance activities
  • A Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement within the first six months of employment
  • Must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation
  • Must complete all VTTC required coursework within one (1) year or be enrolled
  • Must complete First Aid and CPR certification training within one (1) year or be enrolled
  • Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required

Responsibilities
