About The Position

The Agency of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Operations Technician I. This entry-level position is responsible for various highway maintenance tasks, including repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, and ditching. During winter months, the technician will also assist with plowing and salting, which may require overtime. A sign-on and retention bonus of up to $2000 is available for newly hired CDL and non-CDL holders in permanent maintenance worker or mechanic jobs hired on or after July 13, 2025.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old
• A valid driver's license is required
• Must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation
• Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for the successful completion of original probation
• Must complete all VTTC required coursework within six (6) months or be enrolled
• Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required prior to operation of vehicles or operating equipment
• Considerable overtime work is required, particularly during the winter months, and is considered a condition of employment
