About The Position

The Transportation Safety Supervisor is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local transportation safety regulations, as well as overseeing Kenco’s internal safety policies and standards. This role plays a key part in strengthening Kenco’s safety culture by supporting operations nationwide through driver safety training, incident investigation, DOT/FMCSA compliance oversight, and continuous monitoring of driver performance. The position partners closely with distribution and transportation operations leadership, drivers, Human Resources, Legal, and customer representatives to minimize risk, drive operational excellence, and maintain accurate, audit‑ready safety documentation. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, sound judgment in high‑pressure situations, and deep expertise in OSHA, DOT, and transportation safety best practices.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Transportation Safety field or related required or equivalent years of experience required.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in safety, transportation or related field required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Heavy attention to details while being flexible with an ever-changing transportation environment required.
  • Strong PC skills and proficient with all Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Change management experience in a transportation environment preferred.
  • Current or former CDL holder and/or holder of a driver training certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead accident and incident investigations; conduct root‑cause analysis (RCA), and document corrective and preventive actions (CAPA); verify effectiveness of implemented controls.
  • Coordinate all post‑incident processes, including medical evaluation, post‑accident drug testing (as applicable), and timely data entry into the Safety Management System
  • Escalate repeat violations, high‑risk trends, or significant safety concerns to site leadership, vertical leadership, and KMS Safety management.
  • Monitor and verify driver compliance with FMCSA Hours of Service (HOS) regulations and internal company policy using ELD systems
  • Track ELD repairs, maintenance, installations and technology upgrades.
  • Review and maintain audit‑ready Driver Qualification (DQ) files in accordance with FMCSA regulations and company policy, including ensuring timely completion and documentation of DOT‑required physicals and drug/alcohol testing prior to first dispatch and throughout employment.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections for compliance with FMCSA standards and company policy; verify that drivers correctly perform and document pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
  • Perform facility inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and internal safety standards.
  • Review daily video‑telematics event footage from onboard systems to identify unsafe behavior and coaching needs.
  • Track improvements in safety performance, repeat‑behavior reduction, safety‑score trends, and coaching closure rates; use insights to enhance training and refine safety policies.
  • Notify leadership of issues related to event‑recorder equipment and support troubleshooting, repairs, or upgrades.
  • Provide timely, effective coaching and recognition to drivers, driver managers, and other managers/associates, reinforcing safe behaviors, addressing performance gaps, and ensuring adherence to safety expectations, compliance requirements, and behavior‑based safety principles.
  • Facilitate New Hire Safety Orientation, including road tests and DOT and OSHA requirements.
  • Conduct CDL and non-CDL driver skills evaluations, instruction, and behind‑the‑wheel coaching.
  • Ensure all monthly safety and security training is delivered using blended learning methods, completed, and properly documented within the LMS.
  • Collect, validate, and submit weekly safety reports in alignment with company performance metrics and scorecard procedures.
  • Lead weekly safety and security calls with site leadership to review trends, corrective actions, and improvement plans.
  • Maintain centralized safety and security files in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements; ensure records are accurate, complete, and easily retrievable.
  • Build strong working relationships with senior management, operations leaders, drivers, and customer representatives through clear, timely, professional communication.
  • Assist in change‑management efforts related to new technology, policies, or process improvements to strengthen safety performance across sites.
  • Perform annual (or as needed) job analyses related to Job Hazard Assessments, PPE requirements, and Physical Demands.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
