About The Position

The Transportation Safety Specialist ensures the safety and compliance of Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) operations by handling after-hours safety-related calls and managing Electronic Logging Device (ELD) audits. This role focuses on providing critical support during incidents, maintaining compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and coaching drivers to achieve better safety practices and log accuracy during overnight hours.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of DOT regulations, particularly Hours of Service (HOS) and ELD requirements.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills to handle safety incidents calmly and effectively.
  • Attention to detail and analytical ability to identify log discrepancies and compliance issues.
  • Proficiency in using ELD systems and other transportation software tools.
  • Coaching and interpersonal skills to educate and support drivers constructively.
  • Flexibility to work night shifts and respond to urgent matters as they arise.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to access and manage data through spreadsheets and dashboards.
  • Working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation Part 395.
  • One year of experience in the transportation field.
  • CDL-A Driving experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for night-shift transportation safety calls, including accidents or other emergencies involving drivers.
  • Provide immediate guidance to drivers in stressful situations, ensuring proper steps are taken to manage incidents and minimize risks.
  • Coordinate with the relevant internal safety and operations teams, law enforcement, road service, and other necessary departments to report and resolve incidents promptly and effectively.
  • Review and audit drivers’ ELD logs to ensure compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations and company policies.
  • Identify logging discrepancies, misuse, or violations and document findings for resolution.
  • Educate drivers on proper ELD usage, log maintenance, and compliance best practices to prevent recurring issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of incident responses, log audits, and driver coaching sessions.
  • Generate and share reports of incidents and training completed.
