About The Position

This Work Matters! The Multnomah County Transportation Division is seeking an energetic and motivated full-time Transportation Project Specialist to join our Bridge Engineering team. This is a unique chance to work on complex capital improvement projects on Portland's iconic Willamette River bridges and contribute to a safe and efficient transportation system that supports economic and community vitality. As a Transportation Project Specialist, you will manage and lead the design and construction of capital projects of intermediate complexity on County roads and bridges. You will coordinate with project teams, review contract documents, implement state and federal regulations, and communicate with Division management to ensure on time and on budget completion. You will have strong project management skills and have the ability to work in a highly flexible and team-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in engineering, construction engineering management, project management, or related field (in lieu of a degree we will consider equivalent work related experience)
  • Three (3) to six (6) years of experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Valid driver's license

  • Demonstrated experience with capital projects and knowledge of principles of project management including monitoring schedule, scope, and budget
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing development of plans, estimates, and specifications for bridge related projects
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with maintenance staff to support maintenance activities and to complete smaller projects
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication and presentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing design development, construction, inspection, public involvement, environmental and administrative tasks in the design and construction of bridge rehabilitation, road, storm drainage, traffic safety improvements, traffic signals and other public works projects
  • Overseeing work of inspectors and other project team members to ensure projects are delivered according to contract documents
  • Coordinating scheduling of inspections
  • Reviewing documentation produced by inspectors including paynotes and daily reports
  • Preparing and monitoring project cost and budget information
  • Maintaining project records and verifying project completion and final reports
  • Inspecting capital construction projects of varying types and complexities for compliance/ adherence/conformance to contract plans and County/State standards
  • Coordinating inspections across multiple active construction projects to ensure adequate resources are available
  • Leading regular coordination meetings with project teams to schedule inspections as needed
