About The Position

WSP USA is seeking an experienced Transit & Rail Planner to join our growing Transit & Rail Planning practice. The ideal candidate brings a blend of engineering expertise, transportation planning experience, and proven ability to support complex multimodal transit projects. This role is central to delivering future-ready transit solutions aligned with WSP’s commitment to safe, efficient, and sustainable mobility systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, or related discipline.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in transportation planning, rail engineering, or transit system design.
  • Experience with multimodal transportation planning, transit operations, service design, or rail infrastructure development.
  • Proficiency in transportation modeling, GIS, CAD, or simulation tools (e.g., Synchro, MicroStation, AutoCAD, ArcGIS).
  • Strong capability in technical writing, data analysis, and development of planning documentation.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in multidisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Planning, or related field.
  • Experience with federally, state-, or locally funded transit/rail projects.
  • Familiarity with NEPA processes, environmental reviews, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience supporting business development or preparing proposal content.
  • Participation in professional organizations (e.g., APTA, WTS, TRB).

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, analysis, and evaluation of light rail, commuter rail, heavy rail, and multimodal transit projects, including operations, service planning, and infrastructure development.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, planning studies, models, GIS datasets, presentations, and visualization materials for transit and rail initiatives.
  • Conduct and interpret data collection efforts, including operational, ridership, environmental, and spatial data to support transit and rail studies.
  • Perform site investigations, feasibility assessments, and alternatives analyses for transit and rail corridors.
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, and stakeholders to integrate equity, sustainability, safety, and regulatory compliance into planning outcomes.
  • Support public involvement activities, project workshops, stakeholder meetings, and client presentations.
  • Assist in project management tasks, including schedule, budget tracking, QA/QC, and task coordination.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies, regulations, industry standards, and best practices in transit and rail systems.
