About The Position

Under general supervision, this position leads the coordination and implementation of the City’s Active Transportation Plan and active transportation programs. The role supports safe, convenient, and equitable access for bicyclists, pedestrians, and users of all ages and abilities. The position represents the City on active transportation matters, working with community stakeholders, regional partners, consultants, and internal departments to advance related policies, programs, and projects.

Requirements

  • A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in engineering, planning, transportation, or a closely related field, and at least two years of technical or paraprofessional-level experience in a planning, engineering, or active transportation program
  • Experience with bicycle and pedestrian issues, gained through professional employment, academic projects, internships, or volunteer/non-profit work, is desirable
  • Possession of a valid California Class C driver license

  • Experience in transportation planning, active transportation planning, or a closely related field, with an emphasis on bicycle and pedestrian programs or multimodal transportation
  • Knowledge of bicycle and pedestrian planning principles, including complete streets, safety, accessibility, and equitable mobility
  • Experience supporting transportation plans, studies, or projects, including working with consultants, data, and grant or funding efforts
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear materials and work effectively with community members and public agencies

Responsibilities

  • Leading the development, coordination, and tracking of the City’s Active Transportation Plan and active transportation programs
  • Serving as the City’s primary liaison to the active transportation community, including advisory committees, regional organizations, and public stakeholders; leading meetings and supporting public engagement efforts
  • Managing pedestrian and bicycle-related projects, including coordinating consultant work, developing plans and cost estimates, and tracking performance measures
  • Pursuing grant funding and supporting studies, projects, and programs related to bicycling, walking, transit, and multimodal transportation
  • Preparing and managing program-related documents such as staff reports, resolutions, consultant agreements, and RFPs for City Council consideration
  • Collaborating with schools, community groups, City departments, and external agencies to implement education, outreach, and safety initiatives
  • Responding to public inquiries related to bicycle and pedestrian safety, traffic operations, and planned transportation improvements
  • Supporting implementation of infrastructure improvements, including coordinating signing, striping, pavement markings, and basic AutoCAD drafting as needed
  • Collecting and analyzing traffic and field data; maintaining records and preparing reports to support planning and operational decisions
  • Staying current on legislation, best practices, and trends related to bicycle and pedestrian transportation
  • Planning and coordinating special events and performing other related duties as assigned
