About The Position

AECOM is actively seeking a self-motivated Transportation Planner III (Environmental Focus) to join our Arizona transportation planning team, providing technical expertise and managing environmental tasks for public and private transportation and infrastructure clients throughout our US West Region. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Conducting research, data reviews, and analysis to determine potential environmental effects related to transportation improvements. Collects various technical and statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics such as census information, land use, and the natural environment. Supports development of planning documents for transportation studies, including, but not limited to, environmental documents, permits, alternatives impacts, and alternatives analysis. Interprets and compares findings of relevant studies for compliance with local, state, and Federal planning and environmental requirements, standard procedures, and client expectations. Utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze data and prepare detailed maps for use in reports. Supports agency stakeholder and public engagement efforts as part of the transportation planning and environmental review process. Schedules, attends, and prepares summary reports for meetings, both internal and external Coordinates closely with a large team of governmental agencies, contractors, the public, and other project personnel Identifies and implements innovative tools to improve communication, file sharing, and workflow within a large project team Develops and maintains databases Tracks project schedule and task status, prepares status and progress reports on a regular basis Assists with other duties assigned by senior staff and/or Project Managers. Under direct supervision, conducts field evaluations and assessments.

Requirements

  • BA/BS + 4 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Demonstrated technical writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with environmental review and compliance requirements in Arizona.
  • Familiarity with environmental disciplines relevant to transportation planning, such as social and economic considerations, air quality, biological resources, traffic noise, Clean Water Act permitting, and Section 4(f)
  • Demonstrated expertise in Geographic information systems

Nice To Haves

  • Masters preferred in Urban Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Sciences, Economics, or related fields
  • 4 + years of experience with State and local transportation agencies, and their environmental policies and practices are preferred.
  • AICP highly preferred.
