About The Position

Position : Transportation Manager Description: The purposes of the position are supporting the educational program with specific responsibilities for overseeing the transportation programs and services; providing information and serving as a resource to others; achieving defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing, and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines; and serving as a member of the leadership team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum three years of related job experience
  • Pre-employment Drug Screening and Pre-employment Physical Exam
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background and Motor Vehicle Record Clearance
  • Ability to complete eight hours of Training for Bus Drivers per year
  • Annual Physical; Random Drug and Alcohol Testing
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.

  • Ability to use computer including software, the database used by the district, spreadsheet, and word processing software, calculator, copy machine, and telephone.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses incidents, complaints, and/or accidents for the purpose of reaching and/or recommending a resolution.
  • Assists the Superintendent in determining the closing of schools due to inclement weather for the purpose of ensuring student safety.
  • Collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.g., other administrators, auditors, public agencies, community members, etc.) to implement and/or maintain services and programs.
  • Compiles data from a wide variety of sources (e.g., investigating complaints, transportation budget/expenditures, payroll, student counts, mileage records, etc.) to analyze issues, ensure compliance with organization policies and procedures, monitor program components, and/or prepare reports.
  • Conducts accident investigations (e.g., reviews events, prepares and submits accident reports, etc.) for the purpose of complying with legal requirements and insurance carrier procedures.
  • Coordinates student transportation activities with school officials, department heads, and other interested groups or individuals for the purpose of ensuring that school transportation needs are met.
  • Develops and implements the transportation budget to achieve the department's overall objectives and maximize the use of funds.
  • Directs department operations, service maintenance, and the implementation of new programs and/or processes to provide services within established timeframes and in compliance with related requirements.
  • Facilitates meetings and workshops (e.g., safety meetings) to identify issues, develop recommendations, support other staff, and serve as a District representative.
  • Monitors budget allocations, expenditures, fund balances, and related financial activities to ensure that allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded, expenses are within budget limits, and fiscal practices are followed.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Performs personnel functions (e.g., recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, evaluating, etc.) to maintain necessary staffing, enhance staff productivity, and ensure necessary department/program outcomes are achieved.
  • Prepares a wide variety of materials (e.g., maps, transportation budget input, route report, state reporting, mileage, student counts, etc.) to document activities and issues, meet compliance requirements, provide audit references, and/or provide supporting materials for requested actions.
  • Provides job-related training opportunities for drivers, bus aides, and /or mechanics (e.g., driver training, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring their job success and compliance with legal mandates.
  • Researches a variety of topics (e.g., new bus routes, bus schedules, new equipment/materials, bus policies, etc.) to develop new programs/services, ensure program compliance with established requirements, secure general information, and/or respond to requests.
  • Responds to various inquiries to identify the relevant issues and recommend or implement a plan of action that will efficiently resolve the issue.
  • Schedules all bus routes for the purpose of directing transportation services in an efficient, safe and timely manner.
  • Schedules regular inspections, maintenance, and servicing of all vehicles and buses to ensure compliance with mandated requirements.
  • Serves as a liaison between parents and bus drivers, providing and/or gathering information and fostering positive relationships.
  • Responds to emergencies, including after-hours.
  • Operate a school bus.
