With over 45 years’ experience delivering nourishment to communities across the West coast, Charlie’s Produce is a leading produce distributor to restaurants, grocery stores, institutions, and wholesalers. As the Transportation Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and timely delivery of our products while navigating the complexities of state and federal regulations in an ever-changing business landscape. Managerial responsibilities including scheduling, logistics, hiring, training, and performance management. This position will also provide leadership, coaching, and training to transportation staff, as well as ensuring accountability and compliance with company policies. The Transportation Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing all facets of our LA Transportation Department, with the ability to directly contribute to our company’s regional expansion and overall business growth. Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of full transportation department management- with more than 20 direct reports, including supervisors and support staff.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Customer service-driven mindset with a professional and solutions-oriented approach to resolving issues and concerns.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic and ever-changing business environment, making informed decisions to address challenges and capitalize on opportunities.
  • High level understanding of state and federal regulations impacting the transportation industry, including working knowledge of FMCSR (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations) and CA regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, CA time and attendance regulations, routing, GPS mapping.
  • For insurance purposes, current CDL A driver license, medical card, and driving record in good standing is required.

  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now, a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Personnel Management: Lead and manage a dedicated team within the transportation department, overseeing hiring, training, and day-to-day supervision of Supervisor, Yard Specialist all CDL A, B and C license drivers.
  • Equipment Management: Oversight and manage the transportation fleet, ensuring all vehicles are in optimal condition and compliant with all safety standards.
  • Operational Efficiency: Strategically organize and adjust transportation schedules to ensure the timely delivery of products, optimizing routes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and utilizing your experience to streamline processes.
  • Compliance Management: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of state and federal regulations governing the transportation industry. Ensure that the transportation department adheres to all relevant compliance standards.
  • Culture Management: Foster a culture of camaraderie, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the transportation team.
