About The Position

We are searching for a responsible maintenance worker who takes pride in getting the job done right. You'll be individually responsible for sidewalk and public space maintenance, making a difference on the ground, every day. You must function at a high level of independence to help create a quality environment for all who experience Downtown Raleigh. You're a positive influence who will contribute to a harmonious teamwork culture and represent the City of Raleigh well in your public-facing role. Transportation Downtown Services' core mission is to ensure Downtown Raleigh's public spaces and right of way are clean, safe and aesthetically pleasing, providing a high level of customer service 7 days a week. As essential employees extended hours and days are required during special events, seasonal maintenance responsibilities and weather-related or emergency responses. The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency; Less than 1 year experience in construction, maintenance or related work
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
  • Familiarity with mobile devices and applications
  • Ability to read maps and understand job assignments spatially
  • Uses and properties of landscaping and maintenance equipment
  • Occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices
  • Commitment to consistent on-time arrival for all assigned workdays

Responsibilities

  • Removal of litter, small graffiti and stickers, debris, sidewalk vegetation and sediment
  • Seasonal power washing, loose leaf collection, weeding, storm recovery efforts, and snow and ice removal
  • Paver repairs
  • Installation and maintenance of Downtown Raleigh assets, including public space trash/recycling and cigarette receptacles, benches, bike racks, tables, chairs, and umbrellas
  • Data collection and Cityworks reporting
  • Special Events barrier placement and prep/coverage/cleanup
  • Biohazards response to human and pet waste or other bodily fluids (proper protection, resources and training provided)
  • Operating pickup trucks or other small equipment on a regular basis
