Transportation Maintenance Worker - Downtown Services
About The Position
We are searching for a responsible maintenance worker who takes pride in getting the job done right. You'll be individually responsible for sidewalk and public space maintenance, making a difference on the ground, every day. You must function at a high level of independence to help create a quality environment for all who experience Downtown Raleigh. Transportation Downtown Services' core mission is to ensure Downtown Raleigh's public spaces and right of way are clean, safe and aesthetically pleasing, providing a high level of customer service 7 days a week. As essential employees extended hours and days are required during special events, seasonal maintenance responsibilities and weather-related or emergency responses. The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Requirements
- High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency; Less than 1 year experience in construction, maintenance or related work
- OR
- Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
- Familiarity with mobile devices and applications
- Ability to read maps and understand job assignments spatially
- Uses and properties of landscaping and maintenance equipment
- Occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices
- Commitment to consistent on-time arrival for all assigned workdays
Responsibilities
- Removal of litter, small graffiti and stickers, debris, sidewalk vegetation and sediment
- Seasonal power washing, loose leaf collection, weeding, storm recovery efforts, and snow and ice removal
- Paver repairs
- Installation and maintenance of Downtown Raleigh assets, including public space trash/recycling and cigarette receptacles, benches, bike racks, tables, chairs, and umbrellas
- Data collection and Cityworks reporting
- Special Events barrier placement and prep/coverage/cleanup
- Biohazards response to human and pet waste or other bodily fluids (proper protection, resources and training provided)
- Operating pickup trucks or other small equipment on a regular basis
