The Transportation Maintainer 3 (Skilled Tree Climber) plays a key role in highway operations, helping ensure roads are safe and well-maintained. The role involves skilled work (but below journeyman level) in building, maintaining, and repairing roads, bridges, and related facilities to include: Performing routine tree and landscape maintenance along roadways. Removing hazardous, dead, or dying trees to improve safety and visibility. Trimming or cutting back trees, limbs, and brush to maintain clear zones, road signage visibility, and safe passage for vehicles. Assessing trees for hazards and determine if trimming or removal is needed. Using climbing gear, safety lines, and specific knots properly and safely when working in trees or operating from a bucket truck. Operating and maintaining equipment such as chainsaws, pole pruners, harnesses, bucket trucks, and other safety gear. Ensuring public and crew safety during all tree operations. Additionally, this position will participate in snow and ice removal operations, assist with storm cleanup, including removing fallen trees and branches, patching potholes, maintaining roadsides, installing or repairing guardrails, operating construction equipment, and may respond to traffic accidents.
