The Opportunity The Transportation Foreman p lans, organizes and supervises the scheduling, repair and replacement of all university owned vehicles, and industrial lawn maintenance equipment. Properly diagnose mechanical problems as they arise. Supervise Transportation Department Personnel. Ensure that the entire fleet of university vehicles and lawn maintenance equipment are in a good state of repair at all times, within established budgetary limitations. In addition, this employee acts as Facilities Management's resource for environmental health and safety concerns, including safe storage, handling and disposal of chemicals and safety training on equipment by working with the University Safety Department. Requirements

  • Formal diploma/certificate program (6–18 months post-high school) in auto mechanics or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude; experience in repair of gasoline-powered vehicles, including engines, transmissions, electronic systems, rear axles, and drive trains.
  • Skills in acetylene and electrical welding, auto bodywork, and painting.
  • Knowledge of industrial lawn equipment and proper repair techniques.
  • Familiarity with handling and disposal of hazardous materials; DOT/RCRA Hazardous Materials Training Certification compliant.
  • Supervisory skills and experience.
  • 5–10 years of relevant mechanical/maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes and supervises the scheduling, repair and replacement of all university owned vehicles, and industrial lawn maintenance equipment.
  • Properly diagnose mechanical problems as they arise.
  • Supervise Transportation Department Personnel.
  • Ensure that the entire fleet of university vehicles and lawn maintenance equipment are in a good state of repair at all times, within established budgetary limitations.
  • Acts as Facilities Management's resource for environmental health and safety concerns, including safe storage, handling and disposal of chemicals and safety training on equipment by working with the University Safety Department.
  • Conduct road tests.
  • Perform auto body work and painting as required.
  • Establish written guidelines for acquiring contractor quotes on transportation-related items.
  • Work with University Safety to dispose of hazardous or active waste found on campus and in facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Director.
  • Perform personnel actions including interviewing, hiring, and evaluating shop personnel.
