By joining the Division of Highway Design, Drainage Branch, as a Transportation Engineer Specialist in Franklin County, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the quality and safety of KYTC’s transportation network, lead initiatives that improve drainage systems across the state, mentor and develop the next generation of engineers, influence branch procedures, and help ensure communities are protected through resilient, well-designed projects. Summary of Responsibilities: Provide advanced technical guidance and serve as the branch’s subject-matter expert for drainage and stormwater design Lead QA/QC efforts for complex projects, ensuring compliance with KYTC standards and regulatory requirements Mentor and develop the next generation of drainage engineers to build technical expertise and support branch growth Implement process improvements and best practices to strengthen efficiency and project quality Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, resilient, and high-impact infrastructure across Kentucky Ideal candidate will have experience in: Applying advanced hydraulic and hydrologic principles to real-world drainage or stormwater projects Developing, reviewing, and validating ORD drainage models and other hydraulic design tools Mentoring or supervising junior engineers and EITs to build technical expertise Conducting QA/QC or technical reviews of engineering designs Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support project delivery Benefits and Perks: Comprehensive health with optional dental and vision insurance Retirement savings Professional development opportunities and ongoing trainings A collaborative and innovative work environment Employee wellness programs Additional position information: Work involves extended periods at a computer and travel to district offices and project sites. Requirements

  • Must have four years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a Professional Engineer.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification.
  • Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period.
  • Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
