Plans, coordinates, and schedules all maintenance activities to be performed on the State Highway System in Florence County. Investigates complaints and requests for services received from the public, government officials, and agency personnel. Evaluates each request and responds as necessary. Manages the creation and retention of all unit files, records, reports, correspondence, requisitions, and other office related work. Conducts engineering surveys related to maintenance activities. Performs periodic inspections of state roads and bridges in Florence County during the day and night and records the condition of pavements, shoulders, pavement markings, signs, vegetation, and drainage. Manages unit personnel and personnel actions to include hiring, promotions, demotions, reclassifications, training, counseling, grievance hearings, and disciplinary actions. Serves as the agency's liaison to the Florence County Transportation Committee (CTC). Attends all meetings and recommends projects for resurfacing, traffic signal installation, sidewalk repairs, drainage improvements, etc. Works with the committee to ensure all available funds are used to improve the State Highway System. Prepares and explains costs estimates as needed. Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations. Work schedule may include extended hours and/or 12-hour shifts.
