Official Position Description: Acts as staff specialist, (i.e., develops & evaluates plans & criteria for variety of projects & activities to be carried out by others; assesses feasibility & soundness of proposed engineering designs, evaluation tests, products or equipment when necessary data is insufficient or confirmation by testing is advisable), &/or supervises/leads team of lower level transportation engineers, technicians, &/or support personnel by assigning tasks, monitoring work progress, & evaluating the work completed on highway plans. Performs other supervisory responsibilities (i.e. completes performance evaluations, coaches staff, & approves leaves) for subordinate staff. Develops in-house plans &/or reviews designs proposed for all construction (e.g., four-lane rehabilitation, new construction, bridge replacement, roadway relocation) submitted by District Engineers, consulting engineers, & Local Governments by incorporating geometric, hydraulic & structural design techniques in plan preparation using CADD or drafting tools to draw plans. Interprets complex plans to provide for effective implementation & minimize chance of accident, conflict & delay. Coordinates design work with District Survey area. Assures accurate & timely updating of management information systems as they relate to the delivery of the program (i.e. ELLIS, TMS, BMS, etc.) & assures their business rules, policies, & procedures are implemented, used & maintained as standard business practice in their designated work environments.
