About The Position

We are seeking a Transportation Department Manager / Senior Transportation Engineer/Planner to join our Rochester, NY office to lead our growing transportation practice. This senior leadership role is ideal for a proven transportation engineering/planning professional ready to guide a department, shape strategy, and strengthen client relationships while overseeing a diverse portfolio of traffic impact and transportation planning studies.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (advanced degree a plus)
15+ years of progressive transportation engineering/planning experience
Active PE license (NY preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months)
Strong background in traffic operations, safety, multimodal planning, and impact analyses
Proven leadership experience managing teams, projects, and client relationships
Excellent communication skills and a passion for delivering meaningful mobility solutions

Nice To Haves

advanced degree a plus
NYSDOT experience is a plus

Responsibilities

Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Transportation Department
Oversee project delivery, quality, staffing, and financial performance
Guide major transportation engineering and multimodal planning initiatives
Champion innovation, technical excellence, and emerging industry technologies
Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal, regional, and state partners (NYSDOT experience is a plus)
Lead and review traffic studies, corridor planning, safety evaluations, and signal/system design
Oversee advanced modeling (Synchro, SIDRA, HCS, etc.) and ensure best practices across the team
Mentor and grow department staff, supporting career development and technical expertise
Drive business development efforts, including proposals, pursuits, and strategic outreach
Represent us as a subject matter expert at meetings, stakeholder sessions, and industry events
