About The Position

The Transportation Assistant with the support of the Director of Administrative Services will work with the Transportation Coordinator to ensure safe and efficient practices. They will work with internal parties and external vendors for routing and safety procedures

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
(6) months+ of transportation or dispatching experience.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive or proprietary information.
Valid NYSDL

Nice To Haves

Experience with route schedules or fleet management software preferred
Knowledge of Suffolk County roadways preferred

Responsibilities

Assists with scheduling and coordinating daily transportation routes for people supported
Communicates route changes, absences and special transportation needs to program staff and drivers
Supports drivers by preparing daily route sheets, attendance logs and vehicle inspection forms
Monitors attendance and route completion to ensure timeliness and compliance with agency standards
Tracks and reports vehicle maintenance needs, coordinates with Transportation Coordinator or vendors for services.
Maintains accurate records of driver schedule, mileage, fuel logs and incident reports.
Assists in ensuring compliance with safety protocol, including seatbelt checks, lift operation and emergency procedures.
Supports the onboarding and training of new drivers as needed
Maintains positive communication with families, other departments, leadership and outside vendors
Assists in special projects related to route optimization, GPS updates, or software implementation
