Role Definition: Analyzes and develops transportation plans to control the movement of commodities throughout a manufacturing or distribution network to ensure the smooth running of operations at optimal transportation cost levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. Approaches a situation or problem by defining the problem or issue and determining its significance. Makes a systematic comparison of two or more alternative solutions. Uses flow charts, Pareto charts, fish diagrams, etc. to disclose meaningful data patterns. Identifies the major forces, events, and people impacting and impacted by the situation at hand. Uses logic and intuition to make inferences about the meaning of the data and arrive at conclusions.
  • Data Gathering & Analysis: Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment. Participates in gathering and analyzing an organization's data based on requirements. Follows proper data gathering and analysis processes and policies. Utilizes basic data collection and evaluation tools and techniques. Reports problems that arise in the data collection process. Documents data from various sources and in various formats.
  • Accountability: Understanding the importance of taking personal responsibility; ability to take personal responsibility for assignments, decisions and results, and focus on activities that have the greatest impact on meeting work commitments. Completes assigned tasks, seeking help when needed. Describes the value of a positive attitude in meeting objectives. Strives to complete assignments according to established quality measures.   • Transportation - MFG: Knowledge of transportation; ability to transport materials and goods to and from suppliers, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities and customers. Explains basic measurements used in transportation management. Locates and interprets carrier costs, rates and time requirements. Identifies the various modes of transportation and their application. Describes the types, purpose and use of basic shipping documents.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze transportation plans and identify opportunities for improvements to meet client needs.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring systems to provide information on shipment status, shipped date, in transit location, estimated arrival date, and actual delivery date.
  • Generate and analyze reports of transportation costs, carrier performance and lead times.
  • Assist in the development of process flows to track lead time by activity and provide solutions to reduce lead times.
