About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: The Transport Coordinator will facilitate emergency and non-emergency transfers for patients entering and within the HAMC system. The Transport Coordinator will play a lead role in the establishment and maintenance NET service, including regulatory, billing, compliance, securing and training of transport staff. The coordinator will be expected to achieve operating results through strategic thinking, build relationships, develop people and motivate teams while ensuring cost effective, quality, customer directed care and services to the patients and customers of Miller County Hospital. The coordinator develops an effective plan for delivery of care within the assigned area of responsibility and will facilitate healthcare expansion through grant development. Responds to patient and family concerns or complaints with sensitivity and compassion and in a timely fashion. Conducts monthly meetings with the transport staff to address equipment, scheduling, goals and objectives and any staff concerns. Promotes level of professionalism in the department. Promotes empowerment of the staff by utilizing collaborative approaches and encouraging new ideas. Creates and maintains a supportive working environment for all staff. Educates staff in new and existing department procedures and systems. Participates as a member of healthcare with various interdisciplinary committees to improve patient care and meet patient needs. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the mission and vision of the organization. Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures. Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs). Attend staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time. Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate. GENERAL SKILLS: Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred. Strong written and verbal skills. Basic Computer Skills WORKING CONDITIONS: General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels. May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms. May be required to change from one task to another or different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. May be scheduled as needed including overtime. Frequently within shift (34-66%): Bending/Stooping, Pushing/Pulling, Lift/carry up to 20lbs, Lift/carry greater than 20 lbs. with assistance. Occasionally within shift (1-33%): Sitting, Climbing, Twist at waist, Lift/Carry greater than 50 lbs. with assistance, Reaching above shoulder. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: Works to coordinate scheduling of ambulance and non-emergent transportation for our patients/residents. Works to improve care delivery, outcomes, and patient throughput, and to ensure patient safety in areas of responsibility through quality assurance and performance improvement activities. Works with leadership team to improve care delivery, outcomes, and to ensure patient safety across the organization. Responsible for managing, directing, and supervising staff in area of responsibility. Responsible for recruiting, training and retaining staff as well as for staff development. Develops or participates in development of policies and procedures that will guide care delivery and ensure culture of patient and family centered care. Implements and promotes the use of technology as an effective tool to improve operations and communications. Reviews policies as needed to ensure accuracy and applicability. Monitors for high quality and compassionate care through chart review, professional discussion, and patient rounding. Addresses areas of improvement immediately and recognizes high performing team members. Ensures adequate coverage for NET team to meet expected staffing metrics and achieve the standard of care expected. Safely transport patients to fill staffing gaps as needed. Safely pick up patients and transport them to their medical appointments, waiting as needed until the appointment is completed before returning them to their home. Monitor patient condition during transit and respond appropriately to emergencies. Maintain a clean and safe vehicle by making daily inspections, ensuring it is properly equipped with necessary medical supplies and accessibility features, following all traffic laws and regulations. Help patients enter and exit the vehicle, including those using wheelchairs or walkers, securely fastening mobility aids within the vehicle. Maintain clear communication with patients, caregivers, and dispatchers, documenting trip details including pick-up and drop-off times, patient information, and any special needs. Conduct pre-trip inspections, report and vehicle issues and adhere to all safety protocols to ensure passenger safety. Cleaning the vehicle, inside and out, is required. PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Follows Code of Conduct policy. Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean. Completes annual educational requirements. Maintains regulatory requirements. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time. Wears identification when on duty; use computerized time clock system correctly. Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion. Attends annual review and/or skills fair and department in-services, as scheduled. Attempts to end conversations and other interactions in a positive manner, leaves others with a good impression of the Hospital Authority of Miller County and its employees. Nice To Haves

  • Three to five years’ experience in integrated health care setting preferred
  • Current GA nurse, paramedic or EMT license preferred
  • Active American Heart Association BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Additional languages preferred.
