About The Position

The Engineer III/Senior plays a critical role in delivering safe, reliable, and high‑quality engineering solutions that support APS’s infrastructure and operations. By applying deep technical expertise to complex engineering and construction challenges, this role helps resolve emergent issues, guide key technical decisions, and ensure long‑term system performance.

Requirements

  • An engineer with experience applying engineering methods and analysis in a transmission or power system operations environment
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and translate it into clear, actionable operational insights
  • Experience supporting or working alongside real‑time operations, reporting, or system monitoring activities
  • A collaborative problem‑solver who can work with general guidance and contribute technical input when needed
  • Someone comfortable providing limited technical guidance and support to others
  • must to be able to pass the NERC Certification exam within 6 months of hiring
  • A four-year Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) plus eight (8) years working experience in Engineering-related positions.
  • Approved degrees: Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, Structural. (A four-year bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not considered an automatic equivalent for a B.S. degree in Engineering. A review of the degree program curriculum must be completed by Engineering department management.)
  • A four-year Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) plus five (5) years working experience in Engineering-related positions.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze transmission system conditions using power flow, contingency, and operational studies to support real‑time and future grid reliability
  • Develop and deliver real‑time operational reports and data insights that help our 24 hour Energy Control Center operators respond quickly to system conditions
  • Perform data analysis to identify trends, constraints, and risks impacting transmission operations and market outcomes
  • Support the implementation of flowgate methodology for transmission services
  • Collaborate with operators, engineers, and other stakeholders to troubleshoot issues and improve operational performance
  • Provide technical guidance and support to peers, and participate on‑call rotation responsibilities to support system operations
