About The Position

Transmission Line Engineering is responsible for providing engineering support for the planning, design, evaluation, and maintenance of PG&E’s electric transmission system. Engineering support may include structural analysis of transmission towers and poles, conductor and hardware evaluation, foundation and right‑of‑way considerations, constructability reviews, and support of capital and maintenance programs. This internship position will assist engineers with transmission line design activities, data analysis, field investigations, and engineering documentation related to overhead transmission assets. The intern will work closely with experienced engineers, project managers, and field construction teams while developing foundational knowledge of transmission line engineering principles. The position contributes to safety excellence by supporting the reliable and compliant operation of PG&E’s transmission infrastructure. This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business needs. The work location is Oakland, CA. The intern is expected to come into the work location at least 4 days a week. PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. The hourly rate for this position ranges from $24.52 to $35.37.

Requirements

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field at an accredited university
  • Students must be continuing education toward their degree during and/or after the internship
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or obtain one at least 30 days prior to the start date

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification
  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Engineering experience or coursework related to structures, power systems, or utilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction

Responsibilities

  • Supports transmission line engineering activities related to the design, evaluation, and maintenance of overhead transmission lines and structures
  • Assists with analysis of engineering data, drawings, and calculations related to transmission line projects, including loading, clearances, and constructability considerations
  • Prepares and reviews field investigation data, engineering studies, and technical documentation to support engineering decisions
  • Reviews field inspection and construction reports to confirm work is performed in accordance with engineering standards and approved designs
  • Supports field investigation and construction crews by assisting engineers with technical evaluations and engineering decisions
  • Assists with field work related to site visits, inspections, measurements, and verification of transmission assets
  • Supports evaluation and application of new tools, technologies, and engineering methods to improve safety, reliability, and affordability of transmission line projects
