About The Position

GAI is seeking an Engineer 2 (transmission line) to join our Power Delivery team working remotely based in Austin, TX. Required skills include transmission line design experience, critical thinking, problem solving, organization, team-focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real life problems. We value work-life balance and offer flexibility – this position can be performed in a hybrid or fully remote capacity. #Remote, #Transmission Line, #INDHP The Engineer 2 is responsible for technical leadership and the successful delivery of transmission line designs while maintaining the scope, schedule, budget, and quality of projects within GAI’s Transmission & Distribution Division. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical, communication, and computer skills. Competency Knowledge of electric utility transmission line engineering and design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited college or university in engineering is required.
  • PE License required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of transmission line design concepts and principles.
  • Demonstrated track record of external customer engagements and building and maintaining successful client relationships.
  • 6+ years of experience in transmission line design.
  • Required experience with PLS suite (PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE).
  • Ability to work indoors in professional office settings.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based tasks.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling office equipment.
  • Visual acuity to read printed materials, digital screens, detailed documents, and perform detailed work.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching within the office environment.
  • Ability to move between workstations and attend in-person meetings.
  • Ability to lift and carry office materials or equipment weighing up to 10-20 pounds, with or without assistance.
  • Adequate hearing to participate in conversations, phone calls, and virtual meetings.
  • Ability to travel for meetings, training, or business purposes.
  • Applies broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific practice area.
  • Independently evaluates, selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Leads tasks and projects of moderately complex scopes.
  • Develops plans, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Selects appropriate principles of engineering economics, and probability and statistics to analyze risk in a complex engineering problem.
  • Receives general direction on key objectives.
  • Receives guidance on unconventional/complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
  • Mentors junior staff by providing guidance, explaining professional responsibilities, and reviewing work products.
  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Communicates effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred a degree in Civil, or Electrical engineering.
  • Preferred experience with PLS-TOWER and FAD Tools.

Responsibilities

  • Complete day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery.
  • Tasks may include: Preparation of Specification Packages Preparation of Structural and Fabrication Drawings Design and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Tower is a bonus Design and Analysis of foundations.
  • Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to Client and Other required codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
  • Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.
  • Implements effective engineering methods, provides technical guidance, and acts as a resource for engineers and designers.
  • Directly manages projects with no limit to the number or value of individual projects managed.
  • Designs a complete project, system, component, or process.
  • Prepares complete plans, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Begins to develop and reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
