About The Position

GAI is seeking an Engineer 1 (transmission line) to join our Power Delivery team. Required skills include transmission line design experience, critical thinking, problem-solving, organization, team focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real-life problems. The Transmission Line Engineer 1 is responsible for technical leadership and the successful delivery of transmission line designs while maintaining the scope, schedule, budget, and quality of projects within GAI’s Transmission & Distribution Division. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical, communication, and computer skills. Competency Knowledge of project management skills and uses of intermediate practices to increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy. May serve as PM Coach to Task Managers and other PMs. Knowledge of electric utility transmission line engineering and design.

  • B.S. or M.S. Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License

Responsibilities

  • Complete day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery.
  • Tasks may include: Preparation of Specification Packages Preparation of Structural and Fabrication Drawings Design and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Tower Design and Analysis of foundations.
  • Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to Client and Other required codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
  • Coordination and development of permits for Railroads, Roadways, and Environmental Crossings.
  • Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.
  • Implements effective engineering methods, provides technical guidance, and acts as a resource for engineers and designers.
  • Directly manages projects with no limit to the number or value of individual projects managed.
  • Coordinates and develops proposed scope, schedule, and fee for projects managed.
  • Assist in quality control and quality assurance of active projects, providing peer reviews and training of engineers and designers in quality control processes.
  • Occasionally designs portions of a project, system, component, or process.
  • Prepares plans, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Designs and conducts analyses and interprets test data.
  • Occasionally assigns tasks to other technical and non-technical staff.
  • Occasionally plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work.
  • Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or projects.
  • Receives general direction on key objectives.
  • Receives guidance on unconventional/complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
  • Mentors junior staff by providing guidance, explaining professional responsibilities, and reviewing work products.
  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Communicates effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
