About The Position

WSB is seeking a Transmission Engineering Manager to lead and grow our transmission engineering team. This role will combine hands-on technical leadership with strategic mentoring, client engagement, and execution of high-voltage transmission projects (34.5kV to 500kV). The successful candidate will possess a deep technical background in transmission line engineering, a passion for mentorship, and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure for renewable and utility clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Active PE license (or ability to obtain in multiple states).
  • 10+ years of experience in high-voltage transmission line engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience managing or mentoring technical staff.
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and other industry software (LPILE, MFAD, AutoCAD, SAG10).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with a client-focused mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Engineering or Management.
  • Structural Engineer (SE) license.
  • Experience working directly with utilities and renewable developers.
  • Expertise in geotechnical foundation design, ArcGIS, and project cost estimating.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of engineers and designers in the execution of overhead and underground transmission line projects.
  • Mentor and train engineering staff in technical skills, design principles, software tools, and project delivery.
  • Foster a culture of quality, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee all aspects of transmission line design, including line routing, structure spotting, clearance analysis, hardware and conductor selection, structural analysis, and foundation design.
  • Lead the preparation of engineering deliverables including plan and profiles, structure framing drawings, bills of materials, and construction specifications.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable standards (NEC, NESC, ASCE, IEEE) and client-specific requirements.
  • Serve as the technical lead and primary point of contact for key clients.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and with high-quality standards.
  • Support proposals, scope development, and participate in interviews and business development opportunities.
  • Provide quality control oversight of engineering deliverables and internal reviews.
  • Implement and refine internal design standards and templates.
  • Support the growth and development of the team, identifying skill gaps and training opportunities.
