About The Position

At Kimley-Horn, we do things differently — and we’re looking for a Transmission & Distribution Design Leader to join our Greenwood Village, Colorado (CO) office! The ideal candidate is someone who wants to build something meaningful in Colorado’s rapidly evolving power landscape. Requirements

  • 10+ years of design experience in any of the following: transmissions, distributions, or communication line design
  • High school diploma or equivalent (associates degree preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Autodesk products and/or PLS CADD
  • Understanding of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE, and ANSI Standards
  • Ability to work in a team; both collaborating with and mentoring junior staff
  • Strong work ethic, interpersonal communication/writing skills and desire to learn
  • Detail oriented, professional attitude, good communication, team player, self-starter

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), Rural Utility Service (RUS) Electrical Bulletins, ASCE-7, or California General Order 95, and other ASCE/IEEE/CIGRE standards
  • Ability to design structures using multiple materials
  • Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)
  • Transmission Line Modeling (PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole) experience is a plus
  • Experience with lattice towers is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support a growing T&D design practice in Colorado by helping develop and standardize power delivery drafting and design standards
  • Develop, review, and quality check technical drawings and plans of substantial complexity
  • Implement and manage drafting, plan preparation, and drawing database maintenance standards
  • Perform and review multifaceted calculations as needed to support design accuracy
  • Operate with minimal day-to-day supervision while independently managing technical deliverables
  • Apply knowledge of engineering and design principles to identify and suggest design improvements
  • Supervise, mentor, and train CAD Design Technicians
  • Coordinate workflow and project activities to maintain schedules and ensure quality control
  • Develop familiarity with Kimley-Horn’s practices, procedures, and design standards
