Requirements
- 10+ years of design experience in any of the following: transmissions, distributions, or communication line design
- High school diploma or equivalent (associates degree preferred)
- Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Autodesk products and/or PLS CADD
- Understanding of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE, and ANSI Standards
- Ability to work in a team; both collaborating with and mentoring junior staff
- Strong work ethic, interpersonal communication/writing skills and desire to learn
- Detail oriented, professional attitude, good communication, team player, self-starter
Nice To Haves
- Understanding of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), Rural Utility Service (RUS) Electrical Bulletins, ASCE-7, or California General Order 95, and other ASCE/IEEE/CIGRE standards
- Ability to design structures using multiple materials
- Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)
- Transmission Line Modeling (PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole) experience is a plus
- Experience with lattice towers is a plus
Responsibilities
- Support a growing T&D design practice in Colorado by helping develop and standardize power delivery drafting and design standards
- Develop, review, and quality check technical drawings and plans of substantial complexity
- Implement and manage drafting, plan preparation, and drawing database maintenance standards
- Perform and review multifaceted calculations as needed to support design accuracy
- Operate with minimal day-to-day supervision while independently managing technical deliverables
- Apply knowledge of engineering and design principles to identify and suggest design improvements
- Supervise, mentor, and train CAD Design Technicians
- Coordinate workflow and project activities to maintain schedules and ensure quality control
- Develop familiarity with Kimley-Horn’s practices, procedures, and design standards
