About The Position

Under supervision of a certified staff member, aid in providing a positive working relationship with students, faculty, and staff to assure successful operation of a school; assist in maintaining a stimulating working environment for students. The role involves coordinating employment awareness, resources, and job placement for students, and establishing a public relations and marketing strategy to educate administrators, teachers, parents, and students about the TSW Program. Key tasks include identifying needs for school and community-based instructional programs in vocational, independent living, and personal/social content areas that complement student job training goals, and identifying and analyzing local community job sites to develop appropriate training options. The technician will participate in activities related to the recruitment of potential TSW students and must handle matters of confidentiality effectively. Further duties include utilizing community job fairs, coordinating school-based job fairs, collaborating with the TSW Team on student eligibility and initial transition planning, and orchestrating transition planning with various stakeholders. The position also requires implementing follow-up systems for TSW students, marketing and public relations for TSW in the community, networking with relevant personnel, establishing effective case management procedures, and maintaining proper record-keeping. The technician will help evaluate program effectiveness, assist in gathering student documents for Vocational Rehab (VR) eligibility, aid students with mobility/transportation, disseminate TSW information to employers, and match students with appropriate work sites. Maintaining student progress and parent communication logs, exercising initiative and judgment, and communicating effectively with staff, students, and parents are also essential. The role includes assisting with program activities and field trips, attending IEP meetings and parent conferences as requested, and participating in continuing education for professional growth.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • AA degree, or not less than 60 hours college-level courses or pass the paraprofessional test.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • First Aid Training and CPR Certificate.
  • Ability to push, pull or lift, up to 50 pounds.
  • Warmth and understanding for special needs students.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods and materials of assigned work.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of uses and properties of supplies and equipment.

  • Implement a system for follow-up of any TSW Students/clients that are no longer receiving services through the TSW, or whose file may be closed by Vocational Rehab (VR).
  • Assume responsibility for the marketing and public relations associated with TSW in the community.
  • Network with school and community personnel providing employment and transition services similar to the TSW.
  • Establish procedures that ensure effective case management of TSW students.
  • Implement record-keeping procedures that ensure proper documentation of TSW activities, and that demonstrate collaboration between Vocational Rehab (VR) and the school.
  • Help evaluate the effectiveness of the program from the perspectives of relevant stakeholders, including students, parents, employers, schools, and rehabilitation counselors.
  • Assist the TSW team by gathering Student documents necessary for determining Vocational Rehab (VR) Eligibility of Student applicants.
  • Assist students in acquiring necessary mobility/transportation to keep appointments.
  • Implement a system for disseminating TSW information to potential employers (under the supervision of the Coordinator(s)).
  • Analyze work sites and match TSW students with those that are deemed appropriate by the Coordinator and Vocational Rehab (VR) Counselor.
  • Maintain student progress log and parent communication log.
  • Use own initiative and judgement in performing job.
  • Communicate and work well with staff, students, and parents.
  • Assist in the planning and participation of program activities and field trips.
  • Attend student IEP meetings and parent conferences, as requested by the Exceptional Student Services Director.
  • Participate in continuing education, workshops, in-services, etc., to maintain proficient technical skills and continued professional growth.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
