Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. Job Purpose: This position is responsible for performing substation testing as a test technician. As an entry level test technician basic tasks and tests will be performed allow with the assistance to more experienced technicians. Maintaining safety is the top priority. This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions. Occasionally work is performed near moving mechanical parts, at heights, hazardous places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature extremes, fumes, traffic, potential electrical shock hazards, noise pollution, and vibration.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED.
Supplemental courses in electrical maintenance are highly desired for this position.
Must possess a current and valid driver’s license, and have a good driving record for this position.
Must be able to crawl, climb, stand, and lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodations in high voltage substations.
Must be able to pass a fit for duty exam for this position.
Must be available for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel related to high voltage substation work.
Must be willing to work flexible hours, overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights for this position.
Able and willing to travel up to 75% as needed for high voltage substation work.

Some knowledge of the fundamentals and principles of electricity preferred.
Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions required in working in a power distribution facility preferred.
Ability to learn to read and interpret electrical diagrams and prints.
Ability to learn to read and interpret a variety of power generation and distribution metering and recording devices.
Ability to learn the practices and procedures of the industry.
Ability to follow oral and written directions.

Responsibilities

Knowledge of electrical theory and ability to communicate transformer operations.
Perform basic tests on transformer & circuit breakers. i.e. Insulation Resistance, Contact Resistance, Core Ground, Oil Sampling, and/or Ratio tests
Read & understand a drawings and diagrams.
Assist with grounding – knowledge of clearance, LOTO, etc.
Testing equipment set up.
Leader in Safety Culture.
Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including the use of personal protection equipment (PPE).
Participate in safety training programs and meetings.
Ensure that all field service activities are carried out in accordance with all safety guidelines and company policies.
